What is the difference between open and latent TB?
The expressions "open and latent" forms of tuberculosis are used in cases when a doctor has to explain the specific form of this disease to a TB-patient. The "open TB" is a form of pulmonary tuberculosis, when the patient coughs and excretes tuberculosis mycobacteria into environment together with sputum. He is infectious (secretes bacteria) and dangerous for the people around because he can infect them. A patient with a latent TB form is not dangerous for those around him since no tuberculosis mycobacteria are present in his sputum.
You need to go to the regional hospital to the district internist with your complains. He will write an appointment card to fluorography examination and three sputum pattern examinations to see whether it contains a TB agent. He will share with you the examination results and explain why there symptoms emerged.
When TB mycobacteria penetrate, the protection system of your body can normally control their spread. The mycobacteria (bacilli tuberculoses) can remain dormant yet viable in a human body during many years. They can't harm you nor are transmitted to others in this inactive form. The person is infected yet not ill.
The TB infection spreads by air. TB bacteria are educed by an infected person with an active form of lung tuberculosis when coughing, sneezing or speaking. Mycobacteria are spread by an ill person at the distance of 1-1.5-5 meters when he coughs, sings or talks out loud. People that inhale this infected air can catch the disease. The majority of people get infected from the people whom they contact closely and regularly and spend most of their time with: family, hostel, office, etc.
